The use of library
Library is open for all users who abide by the library rules. These rules are valid in Järvenpää, Kerava, Tuusula and Mäntsälä municipal libraries.
A person must register as a customer in order to obtain lending privileges. Customers may use all library services, collections and public facilities. For borrowing, renewing and reserving library material a customer needs a library card which is granted by the registration. In order to get the library card a customer must show his/her identity card which carries a photograph.
For registration, children who have not reached 15 years of age need the consent of their parents or guardians, who are required to be responsible for any items borrowed by the child.
Borrowing and using material in the library is free of charge. However, fines will be collected for overdue loans, special services and lost or damaged material.
A customer can only have one library card for libraries using KIRKES database. With KIRKES library card customers are entitled to borrow material in all Tuusula, Järvenpää, Kerava and Mäntsälä municipal libraries. The library card is for personal use only. A customer is responsible for his/her library card and any material borrowed with it.
The library card must be shown when borrowing material or using other library services. The library must be informed immediately if a customer loses his/her library card. After this notification the library is responsible for the possible use of the lost or stolen card.
Possible changes in address or name must also be notified to the library immediately.
All disrupting behaviour by a customer may lead to cancelling the right to use library services. Any person disrupting the library work environment may be asked to leave the library premises.
The borrowing rights will be cancelled in all KIRKES libraries
- if loans are overdue and the library has sent two overdue notices
- if unpaid fines have amounted to or exceeded the maximum limit set by the library
- for losing or damaging library property
The borrowing rights will be regained by
- returning the overdue material
- paying the fines
- replacing or compensating the lost or damaged material.
A client's personal data will be recorded in the KIRKES libraries' customer register. All customer data is confidential and will not be used to any other than library purposes. The borrowing data will be destroyed as soon as the loan is returned.
Loans, returning and renewing
Depending on the material type the loan period is 1 - 56 days. The loan period ends on the due date at library closing time.
Libraries may restrict the maximum amount of loans per customer. If there are no reservations, loans can be renewed five times.
KIRKES libraries recommend returning the material to the same municipal library from which it was borrowed. In any other case a transportation fee (0,50 € / item) will be collected.
Outside library hours customers may return material in a drop box at own risk. The material left in the drop box will be checked in by the staff when the library reopens.
The material which does not belong to KIRKES library collections may be requested through interlibrary loan. Interlibrary loan service follows the national interlibrary loan rules and terms set by the lending library. Interlibrary loan service is a fee-based service.
Customers may reserve unavailable material. Reservation carries a fee, except for children's material. Reservation fee is determined by the lending library.
Overdue fees will be collected on overdue material, as well as overdue notice fees and other collection costs. Overdue fee increases every day after the due date. Overdue fees will be collected also if renewing loans online has failed because of operation failure, service break or other technical malfunction. For children's material library collects only overdue notice fees and collection costs.
Lost or damaged material has to be replaced by similar items or by paying a compensation price. Videos and DVDs cannot be replaced by a similar item because of the copyright law.
The library will not compensate for damage on customer’s equipment when using library items.
The library welcomes customer comments and suggestions for the improvement of services.
