Preschool Instruction

Preschool instruction is obligatory and the child shall take part in preschool instruction, most often in the year that the child turns six years old. The guardian shall ensure that the child takes part in preschool education or in some other activity that meets the aims of preschool instruction. Preschool instruction (4 hours per day) is cost-free and includes a hot meal. If the child requires child care in addition to the preschool instruction, it is available for a fee.

Preschool instruction activities are based on the preschool instruction curriculum. The daily activity time is between 8:30 am and 12:30 pm. Preschool instruction is arranged at schools and in day care centres during the schools’ operating hours. The children, the guardians and the preschool instruction staff evaluate whether the goals of the preschool instruction have been met.
